Yoba Frozen Yogurt

My Essentials

Posted on: December 13, 2010

I’m starting to get used to this life, living in a frozen yogurt store in the dead of winter while munching on fruit and candies all day. I have this little corner that I sit with my laptop that keeps me pretty hidden so when customers come into the store, I jump out like a crazed sugar-hyped dude and yell “WELCOME TO YOBA!!” as the frightened patrons stare at me. That is what I call great customer service.

I think that’s a good start to this post. I hope everyone is getting into the holiday spirit and I can’t believe Christmas is less than 2 weeks away. What I really can’t believe is that Yoba Frozen Yogurt is on its 3rd week of business. Business has been getting a little bit better since my previous post. This past Friday and Saturday were our highest grossing days so far and I have also been impressed by the number of returning customers that we have been receiving. I hope to slowly remember everyone’s names and their favorite froyo and bubble tea combinations. Otherwise my life here at Yoba is quite mundane. I get to the store around 9-10am to get everything ready for the day’s business and usually clock out around 11pm to go home and sleep. I do however have some great friends that come out to the shop to entertain me and fill me in on the latest Dayton gossip. It’s riveting. I joke that I could seriously carry a camera around and film everything that goes on and make a reality show similar to “The Hills”. I will call it the “937” which with some good editing, I think could win some regional Emmy Awards.

Anyway, that was completely random and utterly useless information. These last couple blog posts have been difficult for me to start and I have been just searching everywhere for some interesting subjects to talk about and I think I found one. GQ magazine has this feature where they ask a famous designer, chef, or other celebrity their 10 essential things they could not live without. I figured it would be kind of interesting and fun to put down my 10 things that I have to have with me at all times. Or this list could just be absolutely boring and the majority of you will just skip it. Nevertheless, this is my list:

Ten Essentials

1. My Giles and Brother’s Railroad Spike Cuff

It’s a bracelet designed by Philip Crangi who has a real personal and gritty style that I really love. He designs some amazing jewelry that even the biggest non-jewelry men out there would give him a second thought. My bracelet is actually a Railroad Spike that was molded into a bracelet. It was given to me as a gift and has a great sentimental value to it. I always have it on and never leave the house without it.

2. My Alessi Tic-24 Watch

As you will slowly find out, I am really into simple and clean designs. Just take a look at the design of Yoba Frozen Yogurt. Clean lines and a minimalistic approach. That’s why I love this watch. It’s designed by Alessi, which is actually a kitchen utensil company out of Italy. They also design watches and they really concentrate on simple and a post-modern design. It’s also a 24 hours watch which is pretty unique as well.

3. John Varatos Canvas Boots

It’s my shoe of choice right now. Just extremely comfortable and has that gritty, used look that I like. I will definitely buy another pair if I can find them.

4. Levi’s 511 Jeans

They are just the perfect pair of jeans and their cheap! I own several pairs in different fabrics and shades and am always looking for more.

5. My IPhone

I had always had a really crappy phone until 2 years ago I purchased an Iphone and it changed my life completely. I use it to scan and email documents, Facebook stalk, and everything else you can think of. I completely feel naked without it by my side.

6. Moleskine Notebooks

They are my notebook of choice to write in. They have a nice feel to them as you write on them and are also a perfect size that you can take with you anywhere.

7. My Coach Wallet

Ok, this is not something I would have ever thought I would buy, however after a little convincing, this might have been the best purchase I have ever made. It’s so small and thin, but it carries everything useful that I need during the day. I have had it for over 3 years now and the leather has just aged perfectly. I seriously might not have to buy another wallet for a very long time (knock on wood).

8. Ray-Ban RB2132

The “new, modern” wayfarer sunglasses that just fit my face better than the old ones. Comfortable and plus I got them for pretty cheap on Ebay.

9. My Drink of Choice: Welch’s Passion Fruit Juice

I drink A LOT of juice, but the only juice that I really love is Welch’s Passion Fruit Juice. The problem is that it’s kind of hard to find for some reason, but when I do find them; I buy a ton of them. I think I will eventually become diabetic.

10. My TV Show: Mad Men

This is a MUST-WATCH show. Impeccable writing, drama, and the style of the 1960’s is just amazing. Don Draper is one of the most fascinating, talented, and frustrating characters I have ever seen on a television show.

Well that got me through another post here. I hope it was an enjoyable read. If you haven’t tried Yoba Frozen Yogurt yet or are hesitant, please read our reviews at http://www.yelp.com/biz/yoba-frozen-yogurt-dayton to get more insight about the concept. Welch’s passion fruit is the best! I always used to sneak glasses of it from the bar when I worked at China Cottage. I will be in soon! Can’t believe I haven’t seen Yoba yet. Anyone from school will tell you that I’m the biggest froyo fan ever!
